POSITION TITLE: Student Financial Wellness Ambassador 

 

DEPARTMENT: Financial Wellness & Education (FWE), Office of the Vice President for Student Success

 

LOCATION: Reports remotely to FWE. Taking applications from students at:

  • IU Indianapolis
  • IU Kokomo
  • IU Fort Wayne
  • IU East
  • IU North West
  • IU Southwest

 

FALL 2024 – SPRING 2025 

 

WORK DETAILS:  $13/hour, 10 hours/week

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: 

IU MoneySmarts is a university-wide program (extending to all IU campuses) run by Financial Wellness and Education, a functional area in the Office of the Vice President for Student Success. MoneySmarts provides multiple opportunities for students to gain and enhance their personal finance skills and navigate the world of money management during and after college. POSITION DESCRIPTION: 

Student Financial Wellness Ambassadors serve as liaisons for the MoneySmarts program to their respective IU campus communities. They play a key role in communicating MoneySmarts initiatives, events, and educational opportunities to other students on their campus. Additionally, they organize and run marketing events and campaigns (in-person and online), collaborate with campus faculty and staff, and deliver financial wellness presentations. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS: 

Review your qualifications prior to applying to ensure that you meet the minimum qualifications for the position.  

 

Ambassadors are expected to… 

Participate in online training to become oriented to the MoneySmarts program, learn personal finance knowledge and skills, and prepare for presenting on financial wellness topics to other IU students. 

Demonstrate enthusiasm for working with all students regardless of background. 

Participate in a bi-annual virtual Student Financial Wellness Ambassador retreat to brainstorm ways that IU campuses can promote student financial wellness. 

Develop and implement creative marketing, outreach, and partnership-building activities to raise awareness of MoneySmarts education and initiatives. 

Organize and deliver events and presentations. 

Communicate with FWE full-time staff, FWE graduate assistants, and campus partners in a professional and timely manner. 

Deliver updates and reports of campus activities to FWE staff. 

 

Ambassadors should expect to… 

Adhere to a weekly schedule of approximately 10 hours. 

Spend the first 15-20 hours of their work in the position in a paid, training capacity. This training will allow the student employee to develop a working knowledge of resources available on campus, in the community, and online. 

Continuously engage in financial wellness learning opportunities. 

Promote MoneySmarts resources and services across their respective campus and learning community (IU Online). 

 

Applicants should demonstrate the following qualities and skills… 

Strong communication skills including e-mail etiquette, engaging with professional staff, and presenting in large group settings. 

Ability to take initiative and work with a high level of autonomy and flexibility. 

Preferred: Marketing or promotional experience through digital and/or face-to-face strategies. 

 

This job QUALIFIES for federal work study, if applicable.

A cover letter that is no more than one page in length. Your cover letter should address the following question: What are effective strategies for engaging other IU students on your campus in financial wellness education and activities? 

A professional reference who can speak to your abilities to independently carry out projects or tasks. Your reference can be an IU faculty/staff member or a current/previous supervisor. 

Interviews are scheduled to take place until the position is filled. All interviews will take place via Zoom.
